Terms of Service
These terms apply to your use of Elaps. By installing or using Elaps, you agree to them. If you don't agree, don't use Elaps.
1. What Elaps does
Elaps is an iPhone app that adds a configurable wait before opening apps you've selected. The wait is computed from how much time you've spent in those apps that day. Elaps also blocks corresponding websites at higher usage levels via an on-device DNS filter. Elaps doesn't force anything on you. You can always cancel a wait or remove an app from your list.
2. Eligibility and platform
Elaps requires iPhone, iOS 17 or later, an Apple ID, and Sign in with Apple. Elaps is not available on iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Android, or any web platform.
3. Subscription, billing, trial
Elaps offers a free tier and a paid Premium tier. Premium is available as monthly ($5/month) or yearly ($30/year) auto-renewing subscriptions. New subscribers receive a 14-day free trial.
- Subscriptions are sold by Apple through the App Store and managed by Apple. Apple's terms apply to the transaction.
- Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase. Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- You can cancel anytime from iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Elaps. Your Premium access continues until the end of the current period.
- Elaps does not offer additional discounts, referral programs, student tiers, or promotional codes.
4. Refunds
Apple processes all refunds. To request one, use Apple's "Report a Problem" flow. Elaps cannot issue refunds directly.
5. Acceptable use
Don't use Elaps in ways that break applicable law, infringe rights, or attempt to circumvent its security or behavior. Don't reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code. Don't try to use Elaps to apply friction to apps you don't have authority over (e.g., on a device that isn't yours).
6. Friction is not a guarantee
Elaps depends on Apple's frameworks (Family Controls, DeviceActivity, ManagedSettings, Apple Shortcuts, Network Extension). These can change. iOS updates can introduce delays or behavior changes. Elaps tries to function reliably, but we don't guarantee that every wait will fire on time, that every threshold will trigger instantly, or that every blocked domain will be unreachable. Treat Elaps as a tool that helps, not a system that's perfect.
7. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains what data Elaps handles. The short version: Elaps doesn't track you, doesn't run analytics, and doesn't operate any server that sees your usage.
8. Intellectual property
Elaps, the Elaps name, the Elaps mark, and the app's design are owned by us. You receive a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use Elaps for personal, non-commercial purposes.
9. Disclaimers
Elaps is provided "as is" and "as available." We disclaim all warranties to the maximum extent permitted by law, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Elaps is not a medical device, not a treatment, not a substitute for professional care for any condition. If you're concerned about your phone use or screen time, talk to a qualified professional.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Elaps and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of Elaps. Our total liability for any claim related to Elaps will not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim.
11. Termination
You can stop using Elaps at any time by uninstalling it. We may terminate or suspend access if you violate these terms. Termination doesn't relieve you of subscription charges already incurred; cancel separately in iOS Settings.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. Material changes will be noted in the app. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated terms.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Massachusetts.
